Luang Prabang - Unesco's Best?
Flying in between the mountains you feel like you are entering a hidden world, and that is what Laos is like. Only opened to tourism so recently, the Luang Prabang area is being very carefully managed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The stunning scenery and hundreds of years of history of such an isolated culture is now open for all to share. My guide Vieng (from Trails of Indochina), was a wealth of knowledge, and I would heartily recommend the use of a guide, you will miss so much if you do not. If organised, you can participate in Almsgiving to the Monks, a tradition that has been going on in Luang Prabang for over 700 years. A deeply moving and beautiful place, like the land that time forgot. I am certainly going back for another, longer visit.
