Scoot Airlines - Low Coast Airline Scoot

Scoot Airlines Flight TZ6 – Singapore to Gold Coast – 29 January 2013

Scoot is a new long-haul low cost airline wholly owned by Singapore Airlines. They work closely with Tiger Airways – another subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, to provide through connections on various routes to/from Asia and Australia. This service is called ScootThru and is provided at Terminal 2 alongside Tiger at Singapore Changi Airport.

Our flight was due to depart at 9.25pm and as we were travelling with other people, one of whom was departing at 5pm we had decided to go to the airport together. I was expecting a long wait as check-in was advertised as 3 hours prior flight departure. I enquired at the Scoot desk and was told an early check-in facility was available at 3pm. We presented ourselves and checked in without issue. We had pre-reserved seats for an additional charge and were allocated those seats.

Inside the terminal we decided to utilise the Ambassador Lounge which is a paid lounger with showers, soft drinks, teas and coffees and comfy waiting. This proved to be a good move given we were then delayed until 11.30 pm.

We went to the gate at the designated new time and boarding was smooth and without issue.  I had expected to be cramped as Scoot fly a Boeing 777-200 series aircraft which on most airlines has a 3 – 3 – 3 seat configuration. Scoot however flies 3 – 4 – 3 configuration. The inside of the aircraft was quite light and with two coloured seats gave an airy appearance. I was quietly surprised that the legroom seemed fairly generous, but of course the seats were slightly narrower. This was not an issue for anyone in my party, but I would concern myself for larger passengers. Scoot also offer a premium economy cabin - we travelled in economy – but with standard seats and 3 – 3 – 3 seating I didn’t see the value.

The flight was comfortable in the whole and without issue, apart from the delay.  Drinks, entertainment and comfort packs are available on board at a cost or can be pre-purchased at a discount when booking.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Scoot if you are flying to and from the Gold Coast or another of their destinations, but if choosing to fly to Sydney it may be better to pay that little extra and get the full benefits and on-board services.
